AJPW NEWS

Following the conclusion of the big Ryogoku show, a press conference was held with updates for the upcoming tour in September.

The now 2-time Triple Crown Champion Kento Miyahara announced a new venture in a “Campus Series Project” with the first of which to be held at the Aichi Medical University. Miyahara will be self producing the shows and will be offering both training and matches free of charge to the students at the university. Miyahara’s aim is to try and connect with the young generation as he wishes for everyone to witness what he believes is the true meaning of pro-wrestling firsthand. The first show will be held on November 4. As for the September tournament, Miyahara declared that he shall win the upcoming “Oudou Tournament” as well as he looks to secure his claim as the highest in All Japan. Miyahara stated that he has competing in all 5 of the “Oudou Tournament’s” but has yet to taste victory, but this time he will win as the reigning champion as well. His first round match will be against KAI on September 12 at the Korakuen Hall. His first defense of the Triple Crown looks to be set for the October 21 show in Yokohama with the field currently open for any challenger to come forward.

The newly crowned World Tag Champion in Daisuke Sekimoto and Yuji Okabayashi stated that KAI and Noaya Nomura gave them a strong challenge, but in the end their strength once more prevailed them to victory. As the champions the two look to accept any challenge placed before them which they were immediately faced with that by Jun Akiyama and Takao Omori. Sekimoto stated that this will surely be a match pitting Big Japan versus All Japan. Which stands more true for the Akiyama as the President and Omori as the Vice-President of All Japan. Though the champions have never stepped down from a challenge as they look to see their fighting spirit will be ignited as they aim to defend the belts.

Then speaking of Akiyama, it was announced that he will be defending the GAORA TV belt against Atsushi Maruyama on the September 3 show at Blue Field. The match will have an interesting rule set as Maruyama described it as the “wild card” rule. What this entails is that Maruayam will possess 3 wild cards that he can use at anytime in the match. The main idea of the cards will introduce Takao Omori as a temporary stand-in, aka what Maruayama described as a borrowing of Omori’s power. This is meant to tip the match in a more balanced nature. Initially Akiyama refused the request for this special rule match, but ultiamtely accepted it after Maruyama’s persistent request.

Then Black Tiger VII took part in the press conference as the newly crowned Asia Tag Champion. Black Tiger VII, as a man of ideas and proposals, mentioned the idea of defending the Asia Tag belts outside of All Japan including potentially WRESTLE-1 if Omori accepts the offer. Currently he and TAKA are without next challengers, but the two are willing to look at any offers that are placed before them.

Then in side news, Billyken Kid has sent a message to the All Japan office as he seeks a match against the new World Junior Heavyweight Champion Ultimo Dragon. Billyken, who just celebrated his 20th anniversary milestone, seeks a match against his in-ring idol as he took upon his own journey as a pro-wrestler by following Dragon’s steps to Mexico. It is a dream opportunity for Billyken to face Ultimo with the World belt also in contention. Dragon has accepted the challenge in his own comment back, as he looks to accept any all opportunities as All Japan has given to he himself over the last couple years.

NJPW NEWS

Following the conclusion of the G1 CLIMAX 27, the full match cards have been released for the NJPW’s three “DESTRUCTION” shows, as well as two of the headlining matches for KING OF PRO WRESTLING.

“DESTRUCTION in Fukushima” on 9/10 will be the first of the main DESTRUCTION shows, and will feature three title matches. Michael Elgin will challenge Minoru Suzuki for the NEVER Openweight Championship in the main event, having defeated the Suzuki-gun leader during the G1 Climax. EVIL, SANADA & BUSHI will defend the NEVER 6-Man Tag Championship against the CHAOS trio of Kazuchika Okada, Toru Yano & Rocky Romero.
And a 3WAY Match for the IWGP Tag Championship, featuring War Machine vs G.O.D vs K.E.S. will take place on all three DESTRUCTION SHOWS.

Next is “DESTRUCTION in Hiroshima” on 9/16, which will be headlined by an IWGP Intercontinental Championship match between Hiroshi Tanahashi and Zack Sabre Jr., who defeated Tanahashi on the first night of the G1 Climax. The show will also feature an IWGP Jr. Tag Championship match between Ryusuke Taguchi & Ricochet and the Suzuki-gun team of Yoshinobu Kanemaru & Taichi, as well as Roppongi Vice’s final match as a team. The duo will face Yujiro Takahashi & Chase Owens.

The final show of the three will be “DESTRUCTION in KOBE” on 9/24. The main event will be another rematch from the G1 Climax as well as the first ever defense of the IWGP U.S. Championship, as Juice Robinson challenges Kenny Omega.

Tetsuya Naito won the G1 CLIMAX 27 earlier this month, earning a chance to challenge for the IWGP Heavyweight Championship at the Tokyo Dome. In the aftermath, Naito nominated Tomohiro Ishii to challenge him for that right, and the match has been made official. The two have clashed twice already this year, and Ishii won on both occasions. Naito will look to finally stop the Stone Pitbull as he chases the IWGP Heavyweight Championship once more. And in the main event, following his upset victory over the Rainmaker in the G1, EVIL will challenge Kazuchika Okada for the IWGP Heavyweight Championship.

About BushidoRX

I have been following Japanese Pro Wrestling for 20 years now and I have also been doing some form of covering it either in news or results for nearly 15 years as well.

I got my start in promotions like AJPW, NJPW, FMW and Michinoku Pro. With All Japan being my go to promotion till this very day.

Throughout the years I have followed All Japan more closely than any of the others out there, and thus I have taken it upon myself to keep people informed with what is happening all throughout sport in Japan. If it does not appear on the news feed I either do not follow it closely enough to relate the information or it just not my go to promotion in general.

Follow Puroresu Spirit, which is my personal site, as I do my best to keep you all informed with what is happening in the land of the rising sun.
