NJPW NEWS

The full event card was announced for the next LION’S GATE show on May 9.

The main event for the show will feature the super heavyweight young lions in Tomoyuki Oka and Katsuya Kitamura taking on the 3rd generation veteran team of Yuji Nagata and Manabu Nakanishi. In what is a parallel match of sorts as both mean share similar commonalities to the veterans that they face. All being former amateur wrestlers as this match is being dubbed the “Amaresu (Amateur wrestling) Heavyweight Tag Battle”. Both Oka and Kitamura have been boasting their strengths and ever-growing skills in the ring. As they are already eager in their young pro careers to begin making strides to take their own places within the promotion.

As of the current standouts among the outsider talents of the LION’S GATE shows, Ayato Yoshida will be receiving a huge singles match against Satoshi Kojima. Yoshida having just come off of his first singles title match challenge against Kengo Mashimo, though with a loss. The super rookie aims to continue showing the skill he has in the ring even against some of the bigger names still competing today. The ultimate trial stands before Yoshida as Kojima stated that he will make the rookie regret asking for this match if he is not prepared for it.

In what is becoming a theme for YOSHI-HASHI with these shows. He will once more be taking on a known talent in the indie scene of Japan this time with Pro-Wrestling HEAT-UP’s Daisuke Kanehira. Kanehira being one of Kazuhiro Tamura’s top students has slowly been growing into his own within the promotion as he boasts a strong jiu-jitsu background. The stage will be open to the outside to show everything he has to offer against a higher established name.

Toru Sugiura and Dinosaur Takuma will be getting another chance at the LION’S GATE stage as this time they take on the veteran team of Hiroyoshi Tenzan and Tiger Mask IV. Toru is being noted for his rugged style in which he is not afraid to fight outside the ring at any instant and Dinosaur’s power was noted from the last show as well. Though they will need all of that as they look to show their all against the vets.

Shota Umino will be taking on El Desperado, who has shown his dissatisfaction with being paired among the young lions. Though he was once one himself, he expects the young talent to not waste his time.

Then New Japan will be introducing another young lion on this show with Tetsuhiro Yagi (Born 4/23/1992, 180cm and 88kg. Joined the NJPW Dojo in April 2016). The 25 year old rookie will be taking on the 20 year Kawato who already has plenty of experience as an active pro-wrestler.

LION’S GATE PROJECT 5, 5/9/2017 [Tue] 19:00 @ Shinjuku FACE in Tokyo

(1) Tetsuhiro Yagi’s Debut Match: Hirai Kawato vs. Tetsuhiro Yagi
(2) Shota Umino vs. El Desperado (SZKG)
(3) Hiroyoshi Tenzan & Tiger Mask IV vs. Toru Sugiura (FREEDOMS) & Dinosaur Takuma (K-DOJO)
(4) YOSHI-HASHI vs. Daisuke Kanehira (HEAT-UP)
(5) Satoshi Kojima vs. Ayato Yoshida (K-DOJO)

About BushidoRX

I have been following Japanese Pro Wrestling for 20 years now and I have also been doing some form of covering it either in news or results for nearly 15 years as well.

I got my start in promotions like AJPW, NJPW, FMW and Michinoku Pro. With All Japan being my go to promotion till this very day.

Throughout the years I have followed All Japan more closely than any of the others out there, and thus I have taken it upon myself to keep people informed with what is happening all throughout sport in Japan. If it does not appear on the news feed I either do not follow it closely enough to relate the information or it just not my go to promotion in general.

Follow Puroresu Spirit, which is my personal site, as I do my best to keep you all informed with what is happening in the land of the rising sun.
