NOAH NEWS

The first set of event cards were announced for NOAH’s first shows of the New Year. [Updates in regards to the GHC Junior situation which was initially reported on the Fb and Tumblr]

First up the first major show of the New Year will take place at the Korakuen Hall on January 7. The main event for the show will feature Katsuhiko Nakajima defending the GHC Heavyweight belt in a rematch against the former champion Takashi Sugiura. Nakajima has made it his goal to be the protector that NOAH needs, but Sugiura has turned as a lone wolf following Suzuki-gun’s expulsion from the promotion. Sugiura has taken offense to the formation of a new era in NOAH as he aims to show that his era still remains in control. NOAH’s “symbol of strength” is on the line as either Nakajima can decisively prove his reign or Sugiura once more puts a tight hold onto the belt.

Then Atsushi Kotoge has declared that he wants a chance to take on the heavyweight championships. Though this comes with a catch, As Kotoge will be forced to relinquish both of his reigns as the GHC Junior Heavy and GHC Junior Tag Champion if it is his desire to jump up to the next class. The now former double crown junior champion will be receiving his first heavy title challenge on 1/8. As he teams with Naomichi Marufuji to take on Go Shiozaki and Maybach Taniguchi. This a huge opportunity for the junior to prove his worth for NOAH as his decision will certainly be put to the test. The following days will also see him in singles competition against two of the top heavyweights as well. With Shiozaki on 1/9 and then Sugiura on 1/11.

Speaking of the GHC Junior belt, Taiji Ishimori and Hajime Ohara will be competing in a special single match on the 1/8 show to determine the next champion for the belt. Ohara is now left without a partner, after Kenoh announced his intentions to jump to the heavyweight division, and his only clear path is to try and prove himself as a singles competitor. Him and Ishimori have competed in the past more notably their GHC Title match back in January of 2014. Ishimori walked out the defending champion, but Ohara certainly showed that he had potential as a singles competitor.

Also it was announced that NOAH’s rookie Shiro Tomoyose will be forced to retire due to complications following his recent shoulder injury/dislocation.He has been undergoing treatment for the injury but after further judgment the injury has been deemed to hard to recover from. At least if he wants to maintain a rigorous and physical schedule in the ring.

He has been plagued with a shoulder injury off-and-on since he debuted in 2015. Which it appears his body just isn’t going to be able to keep up with the constant physical demand.

About BushidoRX

I have been following Japanese Pro Wrestling for 20 years now and I have also been doing some form of covering it either in news or results for nearly 15 years as well. I got my start in promotions like AJPW, NJPW, FMW and Michinoku Pro. With All Japan being my go to promotion till this very day. Throughout the years I have followed All Japan more closely than any of the others out there, and thus I have taken it upon myself to keep people informed with what is happening all throughout sport in Japan. If it does not appear on the news feed I either do not follow it closely enough to relate the information or it just not my go to promotion in general. Follow Puroresu Spirit, which is my personal site, as I do my best to keep you all informed with what is happening in the land of the rising sun.
